Status Quo

I would honestly say that Guthrie and I are greener than the average (American) couple. Since moving in with each other, we have taught each other how to incorporate new sustainable and eco-friendly tricks. I thought I would make a list of things that we already do to get the ball rolling -

- don't idle the car for more than 30 seconds
- bring reusable shopping bags with us (not just grocery store--everywhere)
- bring our reusable produce bags to the grocery store
- reusable lunch bags
- cloth washable snack and sandwich baggies
- glass food storage containers for lunches
- I make almost all of our own household cleaning products (glass, all-purpose, floor, drain, etc)
- water bottles
- bring our own coffee mugs to cafes whenever possible, or try to stay so that we can use a mug
- we don't have paper towels in the house, we use cheesecloth, old t-shirts, and towels
- though difficult for me at first, we use hankercheifs
- as much as possible we buy used clothing, books, cars (well, car), household items, etc EXCEPT underwear!
- actually take the time to print double sided at home
- buy recycled paper in bulk when the co-op orders it
- shop locally whenever possible
- shop organically whenever possible
- we love co-ops!
- buy directly from the artist whenever possible (love etsy!)
- bike, walk, and use public transit often
- our cat uses pine instead of clay litter

That's the short list. The main purpose of the blog is for me to chronically track the changes we make in our life so that others can incorporate those changes into their lives, though I will also give tips of things that work well for us and how we are continually developing and adjusting our strategies. Peace!
